LAYERS OF LEAVES WREATH:

Are you intrigued by the latest Needlepoint Now Magazine stitch-a-long?

Deanne (our newest needlepoint expert) will be hosting a bi-weekly stitch-a-long starting January 28th.  The stitch guide is available through Needlepoint Now Magazine. It can either be purchased directly from the shop or via subscription.  https://www.needlepointnow.com/product/subscription/

The magazine is released every other month starting with January/February 2023 and features 10 leaves.  The included thread list uses multiple colors of floss, perle cotton and several overdyed threads making this project a fabulous stash buster with lots of room for substitutions.

Because one option is never enough (LOL), we have also added some additional colorways and thread combinations that you may choose from (pictured below). Threads will be reused as you progress through the 56 leaves, giving you lots of oppurtunity to make this fantastic project your own.  The stitch-a-long is open to all participants whether you raid your stash, come shop with us, or little of both.

Wanting a little sparkle and some specialty threads, try Deanne's colorway:

   Thread cost $ 157.61

Want a fall colorway:

   Thread cost $135.96

Or choose a non-strandable option:

   Thread cost $154.65

We also have a couple of options for canvas setup:

1. 5" squares with each leaf done individually
2. 19" x 12" - all 10 leaves on one canvas
3. 17" x 7" - 5 leaves stitched per canvas (our suggested option)

Finishing instructions will be covered further along in the stitch-a-long process.  Still undecided, register for the first stitch-a-long and make a decision then.  The schedule for the first 10 leaves is below.  Please call the shop to register by the Thursday prior to each meeting (no cost, just for a head count). Can't make the first group meet up, start on the 11th - that's the beauty of a stitch-a-long.

  • January 28 (participation by 1/26) - Canvas set-up, thread selection and substitutions, leaves 1-3
  • February 11 (participation by 2/9) - leaves 4-6
  • February 25 (participation by 2/23) - leaves 7-10

And if you are wondering, am I participating?  The answer is YES! I will be doing my leaves in 2" squares and treating it as a stitch sampler using the non-strandable thread mix.  Stay tuned for my progress and if this option works better for you, you can choose that one too!

"Beginner Needlepoint with Kris" is our January class. You will learn proper technique for both basketweave and continental stitching, along with several decorative stitches you can use on future projects.

There are still a couple of openings so if you are free on the dates below, give the shop a call to register.

January 21 and February 18: 10:30am - 12:30pm.

Cost: $80. Includes canvas, threads, stitch guide, stretcher bars and needle.  Please supply your own embroidery scissors. Call to register - 630/946-6216.

As always, there's never a dull moment at the shop!  I hope to see you all soon.

Until next time, Deb
